With my 24in screen on 1920x1200 I've been using 95 degrees so far, which I'm liking. I can see the mirrors in the single seaters, and I feel it gives a good sensation of speed.

I do remember using as low FOV as I could in GPL back in the day to get a better sense of the movement of the car (as wien has discovered with LFS), but I just like using a higher FOV to see more around me when racing in LFS. I will probably try a lower one and see how I get on, maybe put the virtual mirror back on if I can't see the real mirrors.

Would you sell the G25 individually? If so and WGooden decides he doesn't want to take it off your hands (as he's got first dibs), how much would you like for it?

If someone is going to commit suicide, why would they bother selling all their stuff?! Bit of a morbid thought anyway isn't it?

I created those LX4 layouts for the competition (with a bit of help from Victor), so if you're looking for similar layouts to those, I have a couple more in this thread:

http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=21584

I'll get more up there in time I'm sure, been a bit busy lately

I definitely like the changes. Like people have mentioned, it's more than just the basics of driving now in a perfect world. We have to worry about missing upshifts due to messing up timing with coming off the throttle, worry about botched downshifts due to not blipping correctly, and generally have a little more to think about which is great.

It's been getting down to about -15C here lately at night. Max of about -5C during the day. But where my brother has moved to in Canada he's going to be getting -40C before long, so it's comparatively pretty warm here!

Wow, you guys are getting quick! I have managed to get just under a minute with the Lotus. I think I'm going to try something a little different and see if I can get any good times

LFS is such a niche market that unfortunately I don't think it's going to have a huge impact on mainstream hardware guys like Logitech. Sure, it could influence products that are aimed specifically at this niche market (ie. Frex shifters), but for a big company like Logitech, I think the customer base of LFS is too small to make a significant amount of $$$ in the grand scheme of things.

This happened to me in a caravan once. I was stuck for a couple of hours, but I was kinda relaxed. The people who owned the caravan were pretty stressed though.

I agree that starting out slow and going for consistency and then speed is a good way to go. What I imagine you're doing is trying to improve lap after lap, setting faster times as often as you can. Instead, just set yourself a goal time to stay under. If you're fastest lap on a track is 1:06.00 (for example), don't try and match or beat this every lap. Just try and stay under 1:07 for a handful of laps. If you struggle with this, then just aim to be under 1:08 for a bunch of laps. Once you're happy doing this, then try and go back to pushing a bit harder to try and stay under 1:07.

Another important thing I find is knowing where I can push harder, and where I am already going as fast as I reasonably can. When you want to try and improve your laptime, it's important to know where you can pick up speed. If you just try and speed up everywhere, you'll likely go over the limit at some point and crash. The more aware you are of your limits and how close you are to them at different points on the track, the better.

Quote from The Very End :Completely wrong there mate

How can he be wrong about his own opinion? That's what he feels and a lot of us feel that way too. I really like getting bits of info here and there and having something to look forward to also.

Quote from The Very End :It`s better to release it, and it patch note / homepage write a lot of new stuff in the patch that we didn`t know about, things that would surprise us

No, it's not better. It's what you would like. But I'm not going to tell you it's wrong, because you're entitled to your opinion, just as we are

I imagine there must be people out there who are interested in a racing game/sim for the PC but simply think everything out there is like NFS and haven't heard of things like LFS. They just think well they're all unrealistic and for kids, and perhaps don't even do any research to find that there is something like LFS out there.

I played the demo regularly from when it was released (Aug 2002) until S1 was released (whenever that was!) then bought S1 right away.

Quote from niall09 :Oh noes, there will be outrage in the pubs! (well, not really...)

Guinness is horrible outside of Ireland, because in pubs they dont pour it properly! They puor it straight and don't leave it to settle

We have set rules about puoring a pint of Guinness here

Fortunately the pubs I've been to here do know how to pour a pint of Guinness which is good news!

Quote from Bladerunner :I know its sad, but since watching Jeremy thrash one the other day on TG, I sort of like this beastie...

http://www.vauxhall.co.uk/vx/c ... cope=S&brandName=vxr8

What scares me though is the mention of the oil leak that ended up as a handicap for Lewis H....anybody who watched the latest TG will know what I am talking about

Yeah, that looks like quite a fun beast I agree with Clarkson, not too subtle in the looks department, but lots of fun. And Hamilton....wow, nice going Definitely a Top Gear episode worth watching!

As for replicas, I don't know I could ever get one myself that didn't look close to the original and perform at least as well (or better as is the case for a lot of replicas of classics). A replica of a modern car, I don't think I'd like. But a GT40 or Cobra replica I could deal with! I wouldn't go telling people it was an original though... This would do the trick quite nicely http://www.superformance.com/coupe.aspx

Quote from BlueFlame :How does a 0-60 constitute a cars overall speed? How does bhp constitute a cars overall speed? They both don't. You could have 1000bhp and have a shitty close-gear ratio. If you didn't tune your gearbox up Chris, that is probobly WHY your punto wouldn't do 140, the stock gearbox only needs to go to 110 or so, because that's what the stock Engine is made for.

You're right, a 0-60mph time will not necessarily give much indication of top speed. Lower speed acceleration is related to the power/weight ratio (assuming gearing and traction are optimum, etc etc), and top speed is dependent on power/drag ratio (again given optimum gearing). So you could have a car like a Caterham 7 that'll get to 60mph bloody quickly (because of it's high power/weight ratio) but only get up to 130mph (because of it's low power/drag ratio). Then of course you could have a heavy, aerodynamic car with a lot of power that takes quite a bit longer to get to 60mph but could top out at much higher speeds.

140mph sounds a bit much for a stock civic, but I've done 136mph (not indicated speed but speed calculated based on gearing) in my stock '90 Miata down a steep enough hill

Me too. The only problem I see other than getting the money together for purchase and shipping would be Scawen not having the space to use it, as it needs a 9x9ft space with 9ft ceilings... But if there were a way, I would definitely put in some money to go towards it

Quote from wheel4hummer :At least the Fiero is mid-engined and RWD. And, if you search google video, there are a few V8 powered Fieros!

Yeah, it may be a shitty old car, but at least they got the drivetrain right!

Over here, the Pontiac Fiero is a common base for Ferrari replicas. And I must say they look JUST like the real thing for the most part Ok really they range from pretty awful to not bad.

Yeah. That's a good point about forcing the car into oversteer too. You're more likely to see quick transitions with the kind of driving you do in LFS/real life racing/autox than on the street, so even stock cars could appear to oversteer more in LFS than on the street in real life. But then get a car set up really taily in LFS and combine that with quick inputs and transitions, and yeah you're going to get some crazy oversteer

Yeah, I was confused on this one too! And I really enjoy Road Atlanta, some nice turns and a really long straight for some high speed fun From the onboard videos I've seen, it looks like Road Atlanta will be the more enjoyable track for me at least, but another track is always good news!

Quote from CTito :I've never seen a small car (XFG) that simply DOESN'T TURN, only DRIFT.

Yeah, this very much depends on setup. If you set up an XFG to understeer then it'll understeer. Roadgoing cars are generally setup to understeer for the most part. If you set an XFG up to be quick, then it'll be quite different to your typical street setup. I see a lot of front-wheel drive cars at autox events that are setup to be almost constantly on the verge of oversteering and they are very quick, and yes, quite differently setup from your regular street cars. It's the same in LFS.

As for hiring people, this has been answered many times...the LFS devs are doing it their way (and it's working pretty well so far!) and will continue to do so for as long as it suits them.

In real life I am good at rev-matching on downshifts, but in LFS, because I use a DFP and do not have control of when I re-engage the clutch on downshifts, I find it difficult to time it correctly. So in LFS I let it blip automatically. Maybe not as realistic, but for the road cars it's not realistic to have 2 pedals in a car that should have a manual clutch, so I don't worry about it.

Great news I remember Scawen saying a long time ago that he wanted to get some trackday experience and I think it's great that he's given it a go now, and in a car that's being modeled in LFS, no less! A great experience for him, I'm sure, and also good for the development of LFS

I got into it a couple of years ago and played it toooo much. I stopped after a few months cos I realised I was spending too much time on it. I really enjoyed adventuring different areas and going into towns etc, lots of fun. But for leveling up, I started to realise that it's so repetitive. Woohoo, now I'm catching a different type of animal or collecting a different type of thing from a different place.
